Officer involved in shooting on South Side

CHICAGO According to police, the incident began with a drive-by shooting at 68th and Marshfield. Police gave chase, curbing the vehicle at 70th and Bishop. Officials said four men were inside the car and one of them attempted to fire a weapon at the officers, which led police to open fire.

One suspect, identified by witnesses as a 17-year-old , was struck. A second suspect was taken into custody but two other men got away.

Police said they found a gun, but witnesses said they shot the wrong person- in the back.

"They shot the wrong young male. He didn't even have a gun on him. They shot an innocent boy trying to get around from the line of fire, in other words. Get out the line of fire," said one witness.

The injured suspect is hospitalized in critical condition at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn.
