Study finds kids' ear implants safe, reliable

Results of that study were presented in Chicago during the 2008 American Academy of Otolaryngology annual meeting.

Researchers looked at a five-year period of cochlear implants in children. They determined that out of 155 cases less than 3 percent of kids had complications. The most common was related to surgical wounds in the ear flap.

The rate of device failure was very low.

The study was conducted at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis.
