Taxpayers showed up at the Cook County Assessor's Office Monday looking for answers. A spokesperson for the office says the increase is a direct result of the legislature's decision last year to allow the expanded homeowner exemption to be phased out.
The bill is due November 3. Property owners can appeal their property taxes.
