When combined with rock salt, it's supposed to melt snow and ice faster than salt alone. It's non-toxic, biodegradable and won't corrode equipment or roads.
Town to use rum, vodka byproducts to melt snow
Officials in Pingree Grove, which is northwest of Elgin, are going to try Magic Minus Zero. It looks and smells like soy sauce and is made from the byproducts of rum and vodka, then mixed with magnesium chloride.
