Haunted house mural of Illinois officials removed

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. The Illinois Department of Agriculture, which oversees the space beneath the Illinois State Fairgrounds Grandstand where the haunted house is located, objected to the images last week.

Agriculture Department spokesman Jeff Squibb said officials believed the exhibit "wasn't appropriate for a family event" and could be viewed as electioneering on state-owned property.

One mural showed Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin shooting Bullwinkle while Rocky watches in shock.

Another mural had a figure labeled "Governor Chicago-vitch" and one labeled "Speaker Mad Again" with their hands at each other's throats.
