New antibiotics could stymie superbug

Scientists believe they are hot on the trail of new antibiotics that superbugs will not be immune to. The problem of drug-resistant bacteria has been getting worse over time.

The new antibiotic compounds also show promise as a more effective and faster treatment for tuberculosis. Current antibiotics are not efficient in combating it.

The new research published in the journal Cell is encouraging because bacterial infectious diseases are responsible for a quarter of all deaths worldwide.
