New public orchard planted in Kilbourn Park

Two dozen apple, pear and plum trees are now growing in a Chicago park.Kilbourn Park is the home of the first-ever public orchard planted in a large urban setting.

The Chicago Park District and the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation teamed up to plant the trees Saturday.

The orchard will help improve air, soil and water quality of the environment, plus yield a lot of fresh fruit.
