Illinois state senator James Meeks is promoting a boycott to draw attention to his school funding reform ideas. He wants supporters to boycott downtown Chicago stores and restaurants during the holiday shopping season.

Reverend Meeks says picket lines will be set up outside stores on Michigan Avenue and State Street.

"We've been ignored by everybody. We've been ignored by the business community. We've been ignored by the governor office. We've been ignored by city hall, nobody seems to think school funding is important," said meeks.

Meeks wants the state to change the way it funds public schools to help those in poorer neighborhoods.

The boycott is scheduled to begin the day after Thanksgiving and to continue until the day after Christmas.
