CPS expanding pre-school programs

CHICAGO The announcement was made Wednesday at Finkl Elementary School on the Southwest Side. The school is among three offering the early education program for the first time in many years.

CPS officials say the $11 million expansion will bring students into new pre-school classes at 50 schools citywide.

Wednesday, Mayor Daley urged parents to sign up their children. "Please enroll your child for the next phase of the program beginning on the first of the year. So you have all of November, all of December to fill these spots up," said Daley.

The new program expansion brings the total number of children enrolled in CPS pre-school programs to more than 33,000.
