A labor compromise could save hundreds of jobs in Indiana. The Arcelor Mittal steel company had planned on eliminating 2,044 jobs at its plant in Burns Harbor.

However, the president of the Steel Workers Union says a tentative agreement reached late Wednesday afternoon will reduce that number to 490 employees, and the layoffs will be on a volunteer basis.

If business improves, the employees could be called back.
