Dolton mayor dies of cancer

DOLTON William "Bill" Shaw died after a four-year-battle with colon cancer.

The 71-years-old Shaw passed away in Dolton, surrounded by family and loved ones Wednesday night.

Shaw was the first black mayor of south suburban Dolton. He began his political career in 1982 in the state house. He spent 15 years as a state lawmaker before becoming mayor of Dolton in 1997.

His twin brother is Robert Shaw, former Chicago alderman and Cook County commissioner.
