Chicago area shoppers get a head start

Shoppers were hitting the sales at a K-Mart on the city's North Side, but retailers' expectations are not high.

An ABC News poll found more than half of Americans plan to spend less this year than last. Many shoppers are holding out, hoping the discounts grow as Christmas gets closer.

But some shoppers just couldn't wait that long.

"Most of the stuff is like 60 percentoff. That's what we came for. Keep money in our pockets," Keana Diggs told ABC7 Chicago.

"We're gonna see. The people in Chicago, they'll give you the elbow sometimes. So, hopefully, we don't have to get out in the morning, but if we need to, we will," said shopper Janeece Jackson.

Analysts are still expecting crowds tomorrow... But they think the crowds will be smaller and will spend less.
