Heart disease deaths down

US deaths from heart disease and stroke have dropped by about 30 percent since 1999, according to the latest American Heart Association statistics. The news comes even as more Americans are sedentary and obese than ever before.

So how did this happen?

One expert says it's not entirely clear but advances in medicine might take the lion's share of the credit.

Also, despite the recent drop, cardiovascular conditions such as heart attack and stroke remain the leading cause of death in the US.
