Short maternity leave impacts breastfeeding

CHICAGO New research from UC Berkeley shows short maternity leaves can have a negative impact on breastfeeding.

The study of 770 mothers finds that those who returned to work within 6 weeks were four times more likely to stop breastfeeding.

The American Academy Of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding babies for at least one year to achieve maximum health benefits. Researchers say women who can take extended leaves should do so for their health and their infants.
