More evidence to support the need to lower bad cholesterol below the recommended levels: a new study shows many patients who have a heart attack have levels of LDL cholesterol well below national guidelines. Nearly half of the patients hospitalized with a heart attack in the study had poor LDL levels.

The new data suggests that about 75 percent of the patients having a heart attack had bad cholesterol levels within the recommended limit.

The study is in the American Heart Journal.
