Chicago film critic Roger Ebert got a big thumbs up from the Directors Guild of America. The Pulitzer Prize winner was honored for his lifelong dedication to writing about filmmaking.

The event in Los Angeles featured tributes from directors, including Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg.

Ebert took the stage with his wife, Chaz, and got the biggest standing ovation of the night. He told the directors, "The motion picture is the art form I love above all others; it is the symphony, and you are the conductors."
