Some gas bills could be going up by this time next year. Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas are asking the Illinois Commerce Commission for a rate increase.

The companies say the additional money will help cover the costs of maintaining and replacing an aging infrastructure.

If approved, Peoples Gas customers could see their bills go up around $12 a month. North Shore customers could see a $10 increase.

The last rate hike was in February of last year.

If approved, the new rates would not take effect until February 2010.
