Facebook changes status update question

March 10, 2009 The site is looking to compete with the Web site Twitter by sending instant updates to limitless audiences.

Changes also include a revised status update question from "what are you doing right now?" to "what's on your mind?"

Facebook says the new homepage lets people better filter messages or updates from those listed as friends.

A new study by Nielsen says social networking on sites like Facebook has overtaken e-mail as the most popular internet activity.
