Adolescents with migraines might have a new option to turn to. A report in the journal Pediatrics finds topiramate is safe and effecting in preventing migraines in that age group.

Topiramte is already approved for migraine's in adults but there are no approved drugs for pediatric patients.

In the study, 83 percent of adolescents given 100 milligrams a day of topiramate saw their migraine attacks go from four a month to just one. Some experienced respiratory tract infections and dizziness but safety analyses revealed no unexpected findings.
