Whole Wheat Bread

March 16, 2009 2 cups white sifted flour
1 cup of a dry bran or wheat
3 cups of sugar
3 tablespoons margarine or butter
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 egg

Preparation

Add 1 cup buttermilk to dry bran or wheat and allow it to soften.

In large bowl combine dry ingredients
Add margarine or butter, and egg
Mix into dry ingredients until coarse
Add buttermilk mixture and mix

Place on floured surface and kneed until you have a firm ball.

Place in pan – push down softly on top, but do not flatten cake to the edge of pan. Make a cross with a sharp knife
About ¼ inch deep.
Place a patty of butter in each quartered section.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
Cooking time: 1 hour 10 minutes
Check the middle before taking out - Make sure it is dry
