Daley announces help for homeowners

March 24, 2009 (CHICAGO) The mayor touted a partnership with the city and the MacArthur Foundation, Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, and a select group of pro bono real estate attorneys certified by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The partnership will try and curb a 49 percent increase in foreclosure filings in the city between 2007 and 2008 with a "fix your mortgage" event being planned for May 2.

"This event will give borrowers who may be eligible for assistance under President Obama's Making Home Affordable homeowners' assistance plan an opportunity and a chance to get help in a fast and efficient way," said Mayor Daley.

The May 2 "fix your mortgage" event will take place at the Chicago Police and Firefighter Training Academy at 1300 W. Jackson.
