Duckworth up for Veteran Affairs post

The director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, Tammy Duckworth, is up for a big job in the Obama administration.Confirmation hearings were held Wednesday for Duckworth as assistant secretary of Veterans Affairs. She was introduced to a Senate committee by Illinois Senator Dick Durbin.

"This is a rare opportunity to be part of an appointment of someone of real quality who can serve this nation as she has so many times before," said Durbin.

The former army helicopter pilot lost both legs and use of her arm while serving in the Iraq war.

A confirmation vote by the full Senate is expected Thursday.
