Convicted gang leader acquitted

April 8, 2009 (CHICAGO) Nathson Fields says Wednesday's acquittal in a bench trial is like a dream come true.

The case against him had a long history.

The judge who convicted Fields in the 1984 deaths of two rival gang members was later convicted of fixing the original trial and pocketing a $10,000 dollar bribe.

Fields spent 11 years on death row. He was released from prison six years ago while awaiting a re-trial. He says he hopes to work with youth to help them avoid a life of crime.
