Suspected bank robber, accomplice arrested

April 9, 2009 (JOLIET, Ill.) The Daybreak Bandit got his name because he robs banks as they open in the morning. He's suspected in four robberies in the southwest suburbs.

The latest occurred on Wednesday in Joliet. Afterward, investigators discovered a nearby jewel had surveillance cameras rolling.

"When officers reviewed that video footage they could see the offender entering a blue Honda. Earlier that individual met with another individual in a silver pickup truck. Investigators had actually written down all the license plates of all the vehicles as soon as they arrived on the scene," said Chief Fred Hayes, Joliet Police Department.

Police used the license numbers to track down one man at a Joliet hotel and another at a residence in Matteson. They say the man they arrested in Matteson tried to burn the stolen money when they arrived at his home.
