Processions mark Good Friday

April 10, 2009 (CHICAGO) This Good Friday was marked with the traditional Way of the Cross procession in the Little Village neighborhood. A man carried a wooden cross along 18th Street to Harrison Park to symbolize the suffering of Christ.

Christians believe the ritual commemorates what Christians believe took place the day Jesus was crucified.

This event was organized by confirmation students at St. Agnes.

In another procession, Roman Catholic Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Paprocki led the Way of the Cross through the Loop and near North Side.

About 100 people joined him as he walked from Daley Plaza to Holy Name Cathedral with stops at several Chicago landmarks along the way.
