People who have cancer often deal with pain and depression, and have trouble sleeping. Now researchers have found lack of sleep seems to cause those problems, rather than be an effect of them.Researchers found that more than a quarter of the 11,000 people receiving cancer treatment at a Memphis clinic had severe to moderate trouble sleeping. The study suggests that interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy aimed at eliminating the sleep issues could decrease the pain and fatigue of people who have cancer.

The study is in Thursday's Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.
