Triumph Elm on Michigan Ave. honors Arbor Day

April 19, 2009 (CHICAGO) The Morton Arboretum placed the 30-ft Triumph Elm in the center of Michigan Avenue just north of the river Sunday in honor of Arbor Day, which is coming up Friday.

Approximately 2,000 green ribbons adorn the tree, carrying messages from Chicago fourth grade students expressing why trees are important to them.

Arboretum officials said they hoped the huge elm would inspire more people to go green by planting and protecting trees.
