Positive attitude could lengthen life

April 20, 2009 A new study finds that the children of people who live to be 100 exhibit those traits, and longevity is thought to run in families.

Researchers say they have observed that positive attitudes appear to be important traits that set the children of centenarians apart from others.

These children also scored lower than the norms on neuroticism, handled stress well, were social, and established important friendships.

Scientists reporting in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society note that even if you don't have this type of personality, you can work to become more outgoing and less neurotic.
