Illinois officials have issued almost $12 million in no-interest loans to help 64 communities across the state buy new fire trucks and ambulances. The Illinois Fire Marshal and the Illinois Finance Authority announced the loans Monday.

The state fire marshal provides 20-year loans up to a maximum of $250,000. The ambulance program provides loans of up to $100,000 that can be repaid over 10 years.

Finance authority Executive Director John Filan says more than $11 million has been loaned out in the past to help nearly 100 departments buy fire trucks.
