It seems vitamin D is the buzzword when it comes to health these days. A new study finds vitamin D deficiency may lead to more severe asthma and allergies in childhood. Scientists reporting in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine found that lower levels of vitamin D were associated with increased odds of being hospitalized for asthma, increased airway twitchiness and more severe allergies.

Experts say still unknown is the role of vitamin D in the development of asthma and whether it would be beneficial in the prevention or treatment.
