Online travel agencies are trying to make booking hotel reservations less expensive. They are cutting the fees they charge to book hotel rooms in an effort to improve sagging sales.

Expedia and Orbitz are lowering the fees on rooms booked by July 15.

Orbitz is also posting the total cost of a night's stay upfront during preliminary search results, instead of adding in taxes and fees when consumers actually book a room.
