The New York Daily News sent out 10 batches of mail from post offices throughout the city's boroughs to locations in and outside of New York.In 8 of the 10 tests, letters sent by priority mail did not arrive any faster than letters sent using a 42-cent stamp.

Priority mail costs $4.95. That's 10 times as much.

The postal service admits priority mail doesn't guarantee delivery any faster than two to three days but says it offers other benefits like insurance and tracking.

The Daily News also tested the postal service's express mail for $17.50. It found that express mail does deliver overnight.
