Keyes, 21 others arrested at Notre Dame protest

May 8, 2009 (SOUTH BEND, Ind.) About 75 protesters gathered Friday outside the school's front gate for 35 minutes, reciting the "Hail Mary" and other prayers and listening to Keyes speak before about 30 of them walked onto campus, some intending to be arrested.

Those who were arrested were handcuffed and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail, where they faced being held on $250 bond.

The protesters are upset at Notre Dame for inviting Obama to speak at the May 17 commencement because of the president's support of abortion rights and embryonic stem-cell research.
