Kenosha Chrysler workers demand to keep jobs

May 10, 2009 (CHICAGO) Last week, Chrysler's CEO implied to legislators that the Kenosha plant was staying open, mistaking it for another plant in Michigan.

Now, the Kenosha plant is scheduled to close at the end of 2010 when Mexico will get the work.

Union workers are protesting. In 2006, Chysler gave employees a wrench as a symbolic tool of the company's promise to produce a fuel efficient engine at the Kenosha plant.

"Chrysler can keep my wrench until they make things right with the workers, the taxpayers and decide to keep Kenosha open," Chrysler electrician Mike Schiro.

Chrysler's CEO issued an apology for adding what he called further confusion to an already difficult situation.
