Tow truck goes wrong way on Edens

May 10, 2009 (CHICAGO) It ended at Old Orchard Road in the afternoon.

A spokesperson with the Wilmette Fire Department says the driver got on the expressway in Highland Park headed in the wrong direction. The truck hit several cars before the driver pulled off the expressway, turned around, and headed southbound.

According to the fire department, the truck hit several more cars and a guardrail. That's when the driver reportedly got out of the truck and ran across six lanes of traffic before he was arrested.

Another driver saw what was happening but couldn't avoid being hit.

"He came at me so fast, and he had a lot of momentum behind him. He just hit me, right from behind. But we had our seatbelts on. So, we're all okay," driver Christian Shelby said.

There were no reports of any injuries Sunday night.

Police were not saying if the man had been charged or if he worked for the towing company.
