UofI football player pleads not guilty

A University of Illinois football player is facing battery charges in connection with a bar fight that sent a man to the hospital.Mike Garrity, 19, is charged with felony aggravated battery.

Police say the fight happened early last Friday at Kam's in Champaign.

A witness claims a man was harassing some women and they told Garrity. Garrity then confronted the man, who punched the 310-pound offensive lineman. Garrity then apparently hit the man, who is hospitalized with a fractured skull.

Garrity has pleaded not guilty.

He has been suspended from the team.
