Possible link between thinning bones, hot flashes

May 18, 2009 A new study finds women who have hot flashes as they enter menopause may have more fragile bones.

The study found women who reported having hot flashes and night sweats had lower bone mineral density. The more hot flashes they had, the thinner their bones.

Scientists say this suggests that estrogen levels alone can't explain the relationship and further studies are needed.
