A piece of meteorite that crashed into a south suburban home in 2003 sold at auction over the weekend. The 5-pound Garza stone sold to a private collector for just under $51,000.

The piece of meteorite is named after Park Forest resident Noe Garza, whose home it crashed through. The rock landed just a few feet from his son.

The Garza stone was originally sold to a private collector for about $45,000 to cover the cost of the damage it caused to Garza's home.
