FDA: Public needs to know LASIK risks

May 22, 2009 The FDA is telling doctors, clinics and others promoting the corrective eye surgery to make sure their advertisements tell consumers about possible risks.

The FDA has been investigating patient complaints over the procedure. It says commercials and other promotions that do not convey necessary warnings, side effects and other precautions are deceptive.

This comes more than a year after the FDA held public meetings that drew dozens of unhappy patients who complained of blurriness, double vision, depression and other problems after undergoing lasik.
