Dan Zanes and Friends

May 28, 2009 (CHICAGO) Back by popular demand, the all-ages folk hero, Dan Zanes returns to the Harris Theater with his band and all of their friends for a very special concert celebrating the sounds and colors of Chicago. A 2007 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Album for Children, Zanes, his Brooklyn-based band, and his eclectic special guests create a rollicking "Woodstock for Kids," where sea shanties, American traditional songs, West Indian folk music, and fiddle tunes collide with soulful originals in a spirit of rock and roll. Traversing the myriad cultures of this diverse and vibrant city -- the concert will celebrate the "indigenous" music of Chicago in its many forms and variations. The audience is invited to "sing along with gusto" before things heat up and ultimately dissolve into a rollicking dance party. Dan Zanes and Friends will be joined by children from the Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood Choir and the Chicago-based Puerto Rican Bomba ensemble Grupo Yuba.

For their engagement at the Harris, Grammy Award winners Dan Zanes and Friends will celebrate their two new albums, ¡Nueva York! (all songs on this album are sung in Spanish) and The Welcome Table: Songs of Inspiration, Mystery & Good Times. Joining the group at the Harris will be the Pilsen/Little Village Neighborhood Choir (part of the Chicago Children's Choir) and the Chicago-based Puerto Rican Bomba ensemble Grupo Yuba.

Dan Zanes is considered the father of kiddie rock music (he's known as the Bruce Springsteen of the diaper set) and his concerts have been called "Woodstock for kids." DZ and Friends performed at the Harris last year and it was so much fun -- within minutes of the performance beginning there was a kiddie mosh-pit assembled in front of the stage!
