Female runners should boost folic acid intake

June 1, 2009 Researchers at the Medical College of Wisconsin say young women who regularly run at least 20 miles a week can benefit from additional folic acid.

Researchers say folic acid can help regulate menstrual cycles, improve performance and decrease the risk of cardiovascular problems.

Folic acid, also known as vitamin B-9, is found in leafy vegetables, beans and peas and liver.
