Thumbprints required to sell homes

Starting Monday, homeowners in Cook County are required to provide their right thumbprint to a notary public in order to sell their home. It's an attempt to deter housing fraud. But many notaries are giving the new law a big thumbs down.

Additional training could cost notaries nearly $250.

Most say they should be trained for free.

Notaries are also upset about additional fee requirements.

The new law allows fees up to $25 for each item notarized, along with a $5 filing fee for documents going to the Cook County recorder of deeds office.
