Man charged in Kane County shooting

According to police, Manuel Ramirez, 26, has been taken into custody near his home in Aurora.

Kane County authorities say they responded to the area of Keslinger Road and Pouley Road east of Elburn May 29 at approximately 2:20 a.m. for a report of an injured subject in the roadway. Police say they discovered a 22-year-old male Hispanic from California shot multiple times. That the man was transported from the scene by the Elburn Fire Department ambulance. He had reportedly sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, and he has been released from the hospital.

After taking Ramirez into custody, detectives reportedly executed a search warrant at his home, during which they say they found a 9mm handgun and more than 1,000 grams of a substance they suspect is cannabis, or marijuana.

The Kane County state's attorney's office says it has authorized charges against Ramirez that include attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, armed violence and possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver.

Friday, Ramirez was in custody, awaiting a bond hearing.
