Murder trial expected to begin this week

June 8, 2009 (CHICAGO) Prosecutors say 46-year-old Steven Zirko first tried to recruit a hit man to murder 38-year-old Mary Lacey. When that fell through, they say he carried out the murder himself.

Lacey and her 60-year-old mother, Margaret Ballog, were found dead inside their Glenview home in December of 2004.

Lacey was shot twice and stabbed more than 40 times, while her mother was shot several times.

Prosecutors say Zirko was angry lacey wouldn't let him see their two young sons.

Zirko's attorney has said there's no evidence linking his client to the murders.
