Couple arrested in village fraud case

June 11, 2009 Bond was set Wednesday for Tom and Sharon Hyde at $10,000. The couple turned themselves in after a warrant was issued.

The Lake County prosecutor alleges Sharon Hyde, a village employee, participated in ghost payrolling over a ten-year period. She faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

Husband Tom Hyde is charged with several counts of official misconduct over the same decade - 1999 - 2009. Prosecutors say as a trustee and later as president, he voted on things for his wife that were conflicts of interest, including her budget, payroll and salary increases.

Other Island Lake officials have been charged previously in the same two-year investigation.

The couple is scheduled for separate court appearances in mid-July.
