Former Chicago Public Schools chief Paul Vallas has decided not to run for public office in Cook County next year.Vallas told the Chicago Sun-Times he has decided to renew his contract as chief of the recovery school district in New Orleans.

Vallas had contemplated a return to Illinois in order to run for Cook County president - possibly as a Republican.

Vallas told the Sun-Times he feels he has too much work to do in New Orleans to justify leaving his post.
