A man who held authorities at bay during a barricade situation in the south suburbs has died from a gunshot wound. The standoff began in Burbank Sunday around 10:30 p.m. and continued through this morning.

SWAT team members surrounded a home in the 8,000-block of South Mansfield. Police say a man inside the home was depressed and wanted to take his own life.

At least one other family member was inside. After that family member exited, officers heard a gunshot inside the house. When police entered, they say they found the man with a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"It appears the relationship between the two, the armed subject and the other subject in the residence, it appears that they were cousins and nobody else was harmed during the course of the incident," said Captain Joseph Ford, Burbank Police Dept.

The unidentified victim was transported to Christ Hospital where he died a short time ago.
