Police warn of cemetery thefts

Police in several suburbs have a reminder for people visiting cemeteries: Don't leave your belongings in unlocked cars. Cemeteries in Skokie and Alsip reported a recent rash of purses and other valuables taken from the cars of people visiting gravesites.

Police patrols have been beefed up at graveyards in Hillside.

There are more than 100 cemeteries in Cook County, so thieves have plenty of potential targets, especially on a holiday like Father's Day when many families visit gravesites.
