Doctor Ogan Gurel left from Daley Plaza Saturday morning. Over the next month he intends to walk to Washington D.C.
The doctor hopes his walk can give voice to Americans left out of the on-going political debate.
"With technology, blogging and twittering we want to get the stories of the people, of real people," Dr. Gurel said.
Much of the doctor's walk will follow the Lincoln Highway.
He says it's an appropriate metaphor for healthcare since the route began as a patchwork of local roads that was federalized into a cross-country highway to benefit the common good.
