A postal carrier shot in the face by a fleeing bank robber in Indianapolis has undergone surgery to rebuild part of his right eye socket and shattered cheekbone.

The gunman shot 54-year-old Bob Norman of Franklin on Thursday outside a Chase bank branch on the city's southwest side.

He has retained sight in his eye, and Deb Norman says her husband is expected to be released from the hospital by the weekend following Tuesday's surgery.

Norman says he followed the robber outside to get a good look at his vehicle and license plate, but collided with him after rounding a corner and was shot after scuffling over the gun. Norman says the only thing he would change would be to "duck a little more."
